WYOMING, Pa. — A motorist who struck a crossing guard here on Tuesday afternoon is being cited for failing to stop for a school bus, police said.
WNEP reported on Tuesday that the incident occurred just before 4 p.m. along the intersection of Wyoming Avenue and Third Street. WNEP reported on Wednesday that 71-year-old crossing guard Mary Claire Jones was struck by a car while helping elementary school students from Wyoming Area Primary Center depart from their school bus. Officer Macson McGuirk told WBRE that the driver, whose name has not been released, hit Jones after driving past the stopped bus, and that environmental conditions, such as the glare from the sun, were factors in the crash. Jones was listed in critical condition on Wednesday.
