LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. — A school bus driver here died after crashing a bus into three parked vehicles on Tuesday, police said.

At around 5:42 p.m., officials from the Libertyville Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a school bus that struck three parked vehicles at 310 W Rockland Rd., according to a news release from the Libertyville Police Department. Police found that the bus driver was not breathing and began administering CPR. The driver, whose name has not been released, was transported to a local hospital, and was later pronounced dead. No students were on board the bus at the time of the crash, and no other people were involved, according to police.

The bus, operated by Durham School Services, was chartered by Oak Grove School District 68 to transport students to volleyball games that afternoon at Highland Middle School, The Daily Herald reports. Robin Kollman, a spokesperson for Libertyville District 70, told the newspaper that the games had already ended when the crash occurred, and that the students participating in the games were driven home by parents. Kollman added that the district is sending its “deepest sympathy to the family” and that “the death of any one member of our community who serves our children affects all of us.”

The incident is currently being investigated by the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
