HopSkipDrive has expanded into another state with the addition of Louisiana to its user base.
The expansion to Louisiana comes at an important moment for the Pelican state’s education landscape. Louisiana schools are working to address transportation gaps, from Orleans Parish to Baton Rouge. Chronic absenteeism affects nearly 25% of all students — and is even higher for youth in foster care and students experiencing homelessness, the company said.
With the recent passage of the state's SB 160, schools now have new options to supplement their transportation needs with student-focused Transportation Network Companies.
“Reliable transportation is a key that unlocks educational opportunities for Louisiana’s most vulnerable students,” said Louisiana Senator Stewart Cathey, Jr. “By addressing transportation needs with innovative solutions, we can foster consistent school attendance and expand access to learning that propels our students towards a brighter future.”
“Louisiana’s students deserve every opportunity to thrive, and HopSkipDrive is here to make sure transportation never stands in their way,” added Joanna McFarland, CEO and co-founder, HopSkipDrive. “We look forward to partnering with schools across the state to make reliable, safe transportation more accessible, and support families and educators in getting students to school on time and ready to learn.”
HopSkipDrive supports more than 10,000 schools nationwide, particularly for students experiencing homelessness, in foster care, or with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
