District honors fallen firefighters with bus license plates
Prescott (Ariz.) Unified School District’s buses will feature license plates that carry the names of 19 Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew members who lost their lives while battling a wildfire in June. The district’s transportation director says she received approval from the state Department of Public Safety on the plates.
PRESCOTT, Ariz. — Prescott Unified School District’s (USD) transportation department is honoring 19 firefighters who lost their lives while battling a blaze with a series of special license plates on its school buses, The Daily Courier reports.
Prescott USD Transportation Director Norma Frye worked with several agencies on the project and received approval from the state’s Department of Public Safety on the plates. The license plates carry the names of 19 Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew members who died in June. The group was assisting in the response to a wildfire near Yarnell, Ariz.
"The transportation department of the Prescott Unified School District felt they needed to be able to help the families of the fallen men by helping the community at large to never forget them,” Frye told The Daily Courier. “These men were valiant husbands, fathers, brothers, uncles, nephews, fiancés, sons and members of the community.”
