District board votes to restore 4 bus routes
Merced Union High School District’s board votes to resume morning-only bus service on April 8 for four routes for the rest of the 2012-13 school year. A trustee for the California district reportedly says the decision is beneficial for students and will keep everyone safe.
ATWATER, Calif. — A local school district’s board of trustees voted Wednesday night to restore some school bus service starting next month, the Merced Sun-Star reports.
Merced Union High School District’s board voted 4-0 to resume morning-only bus service on April 8 for four routes for the rest of the 2012-13 school year.
Trustee Dora Crane reportedly said she was very happy with the outcome of Wednesday's vote, saying it is beneficial for students and will keep everyone safe. Last year, the board furloughed 15 bus drivers and limited school bus transportation to more than five miles from students’ home campuses. The Merced City Council and an advocacy group pressed the board to reconsider the cutbacks, according to the Merced Sun-Star.
