DALLAS — Dallas County Schools plans to hold its first annual Safety Summit on Jan. 20., the school transportation agency announced on Friday at the end of National School Bus Safety Week.

The event will be held at the Dallas County Schools Technology and Training Center at 5151 Samuell Blvd., Dallas, TX 75228.

The Safety Summit will feature various panels with school bus manufacturers and discussions on safety innovations, emergency resources, training and education, communications, and the future of pupil transportation.

“Our goal is to share innovations, create open discussions and provide solutions in pupil transportation and safety in the educational environment,” said Larry Duncan, board president of Dallas County Schools. “We’ll be inviting statewide influencers and leaders in transportation and education to share ideas and best practices in keeping students safe.”

Dallas County Schools’ School Bus Safety Program includes stop-arm cameras on every bus, which have reduced passing violations by 35%, according to the agency. Also, the entire Dallas County Schools fleet of more than 2,000 buses is equipped with seat belts, GPS, and interior bus cameras.
