American Axle workers vote on new contract
DETROIT — UAW union members have been voting this week on whether to ratify an agreement with American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM) that would end their strike, which began in late February. Approximately 3,650 employees in five AAM facilities in Michigan and New York are represented by the UAW. The Detroit facility, which is the largest, was scheduled to cast the last vote today. AAM supplies axles that are used in a variety of vehicles, including Type A school buses. For more coverage, click here.
Hawaii education officials propose school bus fare increase
HONOLULU — A state Board of Education committee yesterday considered a proposal that would give the Department of Education authority to raise school bus fares in order to offset recent budget cuts.
