MCCOOK, Neb. — Students at eight local schools stuffed their school buses on Friday with flood relief items and bottled water to donate to flood victims in the northeastern part of the state, the McCook Gazette reports.
Approximately 85 volunteers and student volunteers unloaded donated items from nine school buses into the trailer of a semi-truck at a Wagner Chevrolet dealership, according to the news source.
The “Stuff the Bus” effort was sponsored by the Wagner Group of car dealerships in McCook, and also raised $4,490 in cash donations for the Nebraska Cattlemen Disaster Relief Fund, McCook Gazette reports.
Southwest Public Schools was one of the schools that participated in the effort.
“The amount of donations and the support of our students and patrons was amazing!” the district posted on its website. “Thank you to everyone who helped support this worthwhile cause.”
Wauneta-Palisade Schools also made donations, stuffing two buses with food, water, and other supplies, according to the district’s Facebook page.
