Teen drives school bus after fight, causing crash

While a bus driver and an aide were breaking up a fight between two special-needs students and checking on one of the students, the other student involved in the fight ran to the front of the bus and began driving it. Another bus driver noticed and drove in front of the bus to cut it off, causing both vehicles to collide.

Bus floor mock-up built for wheelchair tiedown training

The floor features retractable straps for securing a wheelchair in a bus. The supervisor of transportation for Pennsylvania’s Upper Merion Area School District conceived the idea, and Director of Operations Frederick Remelius tells SBF that it has enabled bus drivers and aides to easily practice the procedure several times in the training area instead of having to do it inside a crowded bus.

Police seek man in ‘road rage’ around school bus

A Connecticut woman was buckling her 5-year-old daughter with special needs into her car seat on a school bus when a man exited his car and confronted the bus driver. Authorities say that the man yelled about being delayed and “got into the bus driver’s face.” The same suspect is being sought in a similar “road rage” incident that also involved a special-needs child.

Drivers engage with students in BusSTAR program
