District may invest $1M annually toward new buses

South Carolina’s Horry County Schools is considering making the investment each year until 2019 under a proposal set forth by the district’s chief officer for support services. The proposal was made to get the buses in the fleet under 15 years old to reduce breakdowns and repairs. No final decisions will be made until the district learns whether it will receive additional funding from the state.

Drug, alcohol clearinghouse for CDL drivers proposed

Federal officials say that the clearinghouse would make it easier to determine whether a truck or bus driver is prohibited from operating a commercial motor vehicle for failing to comply with drug and alcohol regulations. A spokesperson for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration says that all employers of CDL holders, including school bus drivers, would have to have programs to satisfy the proposed rule.

Collins boosts bus serviceability

The Type A school bus manufacturer has upgraded many of the features on its buses to give technicians improved access to several areas as they perform maintenance. Among the changes: Bigger access holes were added behind the warning lights, and wires were rerouted below instead of in the wall for rear lighting.
