Durham donates services to Special Olympics event

The contractor donated 10 buses and drivers to transport participants of the Special Olympics of Illinois’ annual Torch Run Plane Pull. Teams from local law enforcement agencies and the general public participated in a tug-of-war challenge on Saturday against an Airbus A300 aircraft weighing more than 180,000 pounds.

Woman arrested for following school bus

Scarlotte Freeman was allegedly following the bus for no apparent reason just yards away from Henry F. Moss Middle School in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The bus driver immediately notified staff in the bus garage, who contacted school personnel, who worked with the police department. Police charged Freeman with disorderly conduct and harassment and spoke to four children who said Freeman tried to lure them into her vehicle.

School Bus Safety Co. offers new leadership course

The “Safety Leadership for School Bus Operations” training program has six units, providing five hours of instruction, followed by a 60-question final exam. Elements of the course will be integrated into NAPT’s Professional Development Series.

The winning student design from part one comes from Jazmine of Wheatfield Elementary in Indiana. Jazmine's drawing is being used as part two of the 2014 Coloring Contest, in which all school-aged children are encouraged to submit their completed coloring sheets by Oct. 31 to win one of three prize packages.

Pupil transportation leader Don Carnahan backed collaboration, technology

Carnahan, who died suddenly on Friday, was serving his second term as president of the National Association for Pupil Transportation. The industry veteran had diverse experience, as a state director of pupil transportation, a director for school bus contractor Laidlaw, and most recently as a vice president for fleet management solutions supplier Zonar.
