Where there's a wheel, there's a way
I want to share an inspiring story sent to me by Jerry Cataldo, shop foreman at Trussville City Schools in Alabama. At 4 a.m. on Friday, May 11, a custodian noticed that the tires of 28 of the system's 44 buses had been flattened. All 168 tires of the buses parked at Hewitt Trussville High School and Hewitt Trussville Middle School were either going flat or completely flat and broken loose from their rims.
I want to share an inspiring story sent to me by Jerry Cataldo, shop foreman at Trussville City Schools in Alabama.
At 4 a.m. on Friday, May 11, a custodian noticed that the tires of 28 of the system's 44 buses had been flattened. All 168 tires of the buses parked at Hewitt Trussville High School and Hewitt Trussville Middle School were either going flat or completely flat and broken loose from their rims.
But that didn't stop Transportation Director Anthony Montalto and his staff from getting kids to school that day. With elementary school drivers and their buses doing double and triple routes, all of the students were at school by 8:30 a.m. These buses were parked at various other places and were untouched by the vandals.
In addition, Jerry says, all of the vandalized buses were repaired and safety inspected before class dismissal at 3 p.m., thanks to help from transportation and maintenance department personnel, Trussville gas and water utilities, a local wrecking company, Jefferson County Schools and St. Clair County Schools.
It's amazing what can be accomplished by resourceful school bus professionals!
