Oregon district adds riders but decreases route buses

Last school year, Salem-Keizer Public Schools added two schools and changed bell times. The district's routing team was able to increase efficiency and reduce the number of large buses by 1% and small buses by 2% compared to the previous year.

Over 2,000 propane school buses now running in Texas

The Propane Council of Texas reports that about 75 Texas school districts are operating buses powered by propane autogas. A 50-cent-per-gallon tax credit for propane has helped districts generate big savings in fuel costs.

Sleep apnea bill passes House, NASDPTS adds support

The House unanimously passes the bipartisan bill that aims to prevent the FMCSA from issuing guidance on sleep apnea testing for commercial drivers without a formal rulemaking. The state directors association joins NSTA and other groups in advocating for the legislation, which the Senate will now consider.

Bill would require formal rulemaking on sleep apnea

The federal legislation would force FMCSA to go through a formal notice and comment rulemaking proceeding when issuing guidance on the screening and testing of commercial motor vehicle drivers for obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep disorders. NSTA is among the transportation organizations advocating for the bill.
