Pennsylvania House approves audio recordings bill

The legislation would permit the use of the recordings on school buses, but school boards would have to vote on policies outlining the audiotaping rules, and parents would have to be notified. The bill had been approved by the state Senate in June, and it has since been amended to also allow police to use audio-equipped cameras anywhere except in a residence without prior court approval.

Pilot project lets students opt for city buses

Some Whitehorse, Yukon, high school students now have the option to ride city buses for free instead of school buses as part of a pilot created by the government of Yukon and the city of Whitehorse. The free transit passes are intended to give students another option for transportation if they stay late for after-school activities, and for getting to places other than home.

Push for electric school buses in Massachusetts

Gov. Deval Patrick and his administration are investing in three programs to support alternative fuel vehicles and related infrastructure across Massachusetts, including the launch of an electric school bus pilot program. The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources will provide $1.8 million in grants for eight electric school buses with vehicle-to-grid capability.

Texas school bus fleet still keen on propane after 30 years

Web Exclusive: Alvin Independent School District switched to propane autogas in 1982. Today, with a fleet of more than 100 buses running on the alternative fuel, Fleet Maintenance Manager Juan Mejias says that the district is benefiting from lower fuel costs, extended oil change intervals and reduced emissions.

The bus in front, which is transporting students for Florida’s Moody Elementary School, stops suddenly for heavy traffic. The driver behind the bus does not stop in time and will be cited for careless driving. All injured students are transported to hospitals, treated for minor injuries and released.

Bus driver defends girl from dog attack

Denise Dolcoe, a school bus driver for Fort Bend (Texas) Independent School District, was on her afternoon route when she noticed a pit bull attacking a girl. Officials say that the driver immediately stopped her bus, grabbed a bucket and ran to the girl’s defense.
