Evaluating Your Mentor Program
Find out how effective your new driver training and mentor program is by asking these 14 questions.
Assigning new hires a mentor driver to answer questions and provide support can be a highly effective means of rounding out a new driver’s training. But how can you tell if your mentoring program is accomplishing its goals?
Here are some sample questions that may assist you in evaluating your mentoring program. Some questions are geared toward the mentor, while others are geared toward the protege. Pick and choose the questions that best fit your situation and prepare an evaluation form for your workers.
Rate each of the following on a scale of 1 (least applicable) to 6 (most applicable).
- The match between my mentoring partner and I met my needs.
- We have met regularly.
- We used our time effectively.
- We were confident about what to do when we started the mentoring process.
- My mentor/protege understood what I was saying.
- I experienced learning and growth during the process.
- We were open and honest with each other.
- We had meaningful conversations.
- My mentor offered guidance and knowledge.
- My protege shared concerns and asked good questions.
- My protege enlightened me.
- This relationship will continue beyond the formal process.
- The mentoring relationship made me feel more a part of the team.
- I feel the relationship was worth my time and effort.
