Suppose there is an accident or breakdown on your bus while you are on a weekend or late-night trip? The office is closed. How will you get in touch with parents and administrators? All drivers and district administrators have Nextel phones. We issue business card-sized cards with 5-key transportation staff members’ home and cell numbers for coaches/teachers to use. John Farr, transportation director Oceanside (Calif.) Unified S.D. johnfarr@sdcoe.k12.ca.us We have handbooks with numbers all over southern Ontario to contact in case of an emergency. This also includes the home phone numbers of our manager, dispatcher and mechanics. It is required to be on every bus, and every driver is given one and must sign a form stating that he has read the book. Ellen, driver Stratford, Ontario Any after-hours trips are given a cell phone and we have home numbers, pager numbers, etc., of people to contact in case of an emergency. Michele Kuhne, driver Gloversville (N.Y.) Enlarged S.D. Our school district has its own police department. That dispatch office is manned 24/7. They have a list of several names to call in case of emergencies. Joe Reed, asst. trans. director School District of Palm Beach (Fla.) jrcr@adelphia.net
