BUFFALO, Mo. — A school district here has agreed to a $25,000 settlement with the family of a boy who was punched on a school bus, the Springfield News-Leader reported on Sunday.

The incident occurred in March 2017, when the boy was 11. According to the Springfield News-Leader, parents Clint and Malina Swanigan filed a lawsuit against Dallas County R-1 School District, claiming that their son was injured when another student punched him on the bus.

The Springfield News-Leader reported that the school district denied any wrongdoing but agreed to a $25,000 settlement with the family. Tim Ryan, superintendent of Dallas County R-1 School District, told the newspaper that the incident was immediately reported to school officials, and the district takes "every precaution" to protect students on school buses, including extensive driver training and surveillance systems on all 30 of its buses.
