LOMPOC, Calif. — A school bus aide here has been accused of physically abusing a student with special needs, police said.
An investigation revealed that Arthur Carlos was shown on video on Oct. 16 putting his hands around the 10-year-old boy’s neck and pushing his head against the bus window, according to a news release from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
The boy came home from school crying that day and told his parents that he had been hurt by an aide on the bus, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The parents reported the incident to the Lompoc Unified School District, and the district reviewed the bus surveillance video and shared it with parents.
Detectives also reviewed the video and determined that Carlos, a newly hired employee, had willfully inflicted inhuman corporal punishment upon the special-needs student. Carlos was arrested on Oct. 25 for corporal injury upon a child. He is being held on $50,000 bail.
