CAMPOBELLO, S.C. — A school bus driver here was honored on Wednesday for his four-plus decades of driving a school bus.
Lynn Pittman has been a bus driver for Spartanburg School District One for 41 years and has logged over 1 million miles over the course of his career, according to the district. He has transported general education and special-needs students.
The district held a special celebration to commemorate Pittman’s achievement, and several representatives from the South Carolina Department of Education (DOE) attended to thank Pittman for his hard work. State DOE Superintendent Molly Spearman attended via video chat to express her appreciation to Pittman as well, according to Spartanburg School District One.
"Mr. Pittman is the epitome of dedication. His passion and perseverance have earned him the respect of many and are what allowed him to achieve this nearly impossible task of transporting students safely to and from school for 41 years,” Ty Dawkins, the director of transportation for Spartanburg School District One, told School Bus Fleet. “The impact Mr. Pittman has had on Spartanburg One is immeasurable, and I look forward to the pleasure of working with him for another 1 million miles."
