Camera system captures stop-arm violations

The camera system from Redflex Traffic Systems’ Student Guardian solution is installed on the front and rear driver's side of a school bus. It monitors traffic while the bus' stop arm is displayed, and data supporting possible violations, including video and images of license plates and drivers, is submitted to local law enforcement.

Survey: 66% support cameras to capture illegal bus passing

The study, which was conducted for Affiliated Computer Services Inc., also shows that 77 percent of the 2,112 adults surveyed agree that school bus drivers are too busy focusing on student safety to record information of vehicles that illegally pass their stopped buses.

Bus driver resigns after student struck by car

Stephen Wilson is cited with reckless conduct after he reportedly fails to engage his bus' warning lights and stop sign as a student exits the bus and begins to cross the road. The student is struck by the side mirror of a passing car but does not suffer any major injuries.

N.D. troopers partner with schools to promote bus safety

The North Dakota Highway Patrol's "Trooper on a Bus" program is designed to enhance the enforcement of traffic laws and increase public awareness of the dangers of illegal bus passing. Starting Wednesday, troopers will ride along on school buses to observe motorists' activities, radioing in any information about drivers who fail to stop for buses when children are boarding and disembarking.
