Woman sentenced for fatal bus-passing accident

Shirley McManners is sentenced to one year in prison and 14 years of probation for the December accident in which she struck and killed 17-year-old Brandy Hart after she exited her school bus. McManners pled guilty last month to a charge of vehicular homicide and apologized to Hart’s family.

Texting cited in teen’s fatal crash into bus

Deianerah "D.J." Logan, 17, was killed when she rear-ended a school bus in September. An investigation finds that the teen was texting at the time. Her family says in a statement that “we would much rather be grounding her for this mistake than never hearing her laughter fill the house again.”

2 killed in Ky. school bus accident

An initial investigation by the Kentucky State Police into Monday’s crash shows that the bus left the roadway for reasons that are unknown, partially overturned onto its side and then hit a tree. Officials say that the bus was equipped with seat belts, and it appears that they were in use by all occupants at the time of the crash.

SBSC launches effort to reduce child fatalities

School Bus Safety Co.’s nationwide initiative is aimed at reducing the number of fatalities in bus-related incidents from an average of 12 per year to zero by focusing resources on four areas: bus drivers, school buses, other motorists and children. Girl fatally struck by school bus in Ark.

A preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police indicates that the bus was traveling toward a bus stop early Friday morning, and as the driver approached the stop he slowed down, but he did not see 7-year-old Hannah Martin, who ran into the road and was hit. No charges have been filed in the incident.
