Girl fatally struck by school bus in Ark.
A preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police indicates that the bus was traveling toward a bus stop early Friday morning, and as the driver approached the stop he slowed down, but he did not see 7-year-old Hannah Martin, who ran into the road and was hit. No charges have been filed in the incident.
GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. — Arkansas State Police has released preliminary information about a fatal accident involving a school bus that occurred here last Friday morning.
The report indicates that the bus was traveling westbound on a road toward a school bus stop at 6:14 a.m. Weather conditions were clear and the road was dry.
Seven-year-old Hannah Martin and her mother were in their front yard. When the driver approached the stop, he slowed down, but he reportedly did not see Martin, who ran into the road and was struck by the bus.
Martin was killed in the incident.
KTHV reports that the accident happened in a rural area with no street lights while it was still dark outside. During a press conference held by the Lake Hamilton School District on Friday afternoon, Superintendent Steve Anderson said no charges have been filed in the incident.
Authorities said that there were four children on the bus at the time.
Funeral services for Martin were scheduled for Monday, and she will be laid to rest in Georgia at a later date, according to KATV.
