Calif. district extends busing through 2nd semester

School bus service to geographically remote areas will continue through the end of the school year at Lake Elsinore Unified School District. The board had earlier approved temporary bus service, for the first semester, for nearly 2,200 students who live in remote areas.

Seon Design, U.S. Computing to offer integrated solution

Seon’s vMax Live Plus real-time tracking system will be combined with U.S. Computing’s routing software — vMax Live Plus AVL data will be shared with the Compass web-based routing application. Ore. district revises bell times, cuts road calls

The Salem-Keizer Public Schools transportation department has adjusted all school bell times, which director Michael Shields says reduced the number of routes without causing problems or service interruptions. In other news, road calls were reduced for all vehicles by 38.4% compared to the previous year.

NYC Dept. of Education honored for GIS work

The department receives a Special Achievement in GIS award at an Esri conference. Alex Robinson, executive director of the department’s Office of Pupil Transportation, tells SBF that in addition to the more than 8,000 school buses on routes daily, "we couldn’t do what we do without amazing mapping technology and GIS experts."
