Wyoming lawmakers consider tougher bus-passing penalties

The state Legislature’s Joint Education Committee is reportedly interested in raising the penalties for bus-passing violations and making it a stepped offense so that penalties are increased for multiple offenses. The legislators also are considering installing external cameras on all daily route buses to help in catching and citing offenders.

Arizona district adds 61 Blue Bird propane buses to fleet

Mesa Public Schools has purchased 55 Blue Bird Propane-Powered Vision school buses and six wheelchair accessible buses to increase its propane bus total to 89. The district, which has a goal of operating the nation’s first all-propane yellow bus fleet, expects to save $4.43 million in operating costs over a five-year period.

School removes buses’ animal signs following complaint

The signs had drawings of elephants, monkeys and other animals, and they were used to help students identify their buses, but Sandra Conner said that the signs had a “negative reinforcement,” and she confronted the school about them. The buses will now receive a number for identification purposes.

First Student to serve Ohio district under 10-year contract

The company will begin providing transportation services for Valley View Local Schools in Germantown on July 1, and First Student will install additional safety features on the district's school buses, including GPS, onboard digital video cameras and Child Check-Mate electronic reminder systems. In other news, First Student President Linda Burtwistle receives the 2013 Ohio Glass Ceiling Award, which honors women in leadership positions.
