Ferguson school district extends busing in ‘hot zone’

In light of the civil unrest that has captivated the nation in recent weeks, the Ferguson-Florissant School District expands its school bus service to make sure students get to school safely. Bus routes for an elementary school in the “hot zone” of unrest will temporarily pick up children inside the normal 1-mile radius walk zone.

School bus funding increased by 36% in Massachusetts

The fiscal year 2015 budget signed by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick last month includes an $18.7 million increase for regional school transportation. Administration officials said that the new total of $70 million is the highest-ever level of state investment in school bus service.

HSM equips Lion buses with seating

The seats traveled from the supplier’s New Washington, Ohio, manufacturing plant to the Lion Bus facility in Quebec, Canada, where they were installed in new school buses before going full circle and getting shipped back to Ohio. Bedford City Schools is the first Ohio district to add buses from Lion Bus to its existing fleet.

The Propane Education & Research Council’s new brand identity for propane is PROPANE Clean American Energy. The new logo, anchored by the iconic image of an American bald eagle, highlights propane as an increasingly American-made alternative fuel at a time when U.S. propane production from natural gas liquids is at record levels, council officials said.

Some N.Y. school bus drivers may get more pay

The City Council is planning to vote to give $42 million to school bus companies to increase the salaries of experienced drivers who were forced to take pay cuts after the former Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg awarded new bus contracts that cut hundreds of millions of dollars from a $1.1 billion school transportation budget. Some of the savings came from removing seniority protection.

California Highway Patrol approves all-electric school bus

Technology company Adomani and the Gilroy Unified School District collaborated to produce a solar fueled, all-electric, 50 passenger, Type D school bus. CHP approval was the final step before the converted school bus was cleared to transport students, and it makes its debut this school year.
