Toddler struck, killed by school bus in Texas
The 15-month-old girl gets out of the front yard of her home and runs in front of the bus. The driver reportedly does not see the girl, and the bus knocks her down — then she is run over by the back wheels of the bus.
TYLER, Texas — A 15-month-old girl was struck and killed by a school bus here on Tuesday afternoon, the Tyler Morning Telegraph reports.
Trooper Jean Dark, public information officer for the Texas Department of Public Safety, told the newspaper that a mother was waiting for one of her children to exit the bus when 15-month-old Arra Preciado got out of the yard and ran toward the bus. Her mother reportedly thought the gate was closed.
Dark went on to say that the bus driver did not see Preciado in front of the bus, which knocked her down. Then the back wheels of the bus ran over her. Preciado was pronounced dead at the scene.
Donni Cook, superintendent of Chapel Hill Independent School District, said in a news release that all of the district’s procedures related to accidents were followed, and she expressed sympathy for the family of the child and all others involved.
