SAN ANTONIO — A state law passed in 2007 requires all new buses to be equipped with lap-shoulder belts starting Sept. 1, as long as funding is provided by the state. But school districts are still waiting for the funds to cover the purchases, WOAIreports.
Lawmakers set aside $10 million to cover the cost of new seat belt-equipped buses, but that would only add up to about one new bus per district, according to WOAI.
