San Antonio (Texas) Independent School District transformed one of its school buses into the likeness of the main character from the Dr. Seuss book for a district event highlighting summertime activities.

SAN ANTONIO — A school district here recently decorated one of its school buses to resemble a popular children’s book character as it took part in an event that shared information about extracurricular summer activities.

The San Antonio Independent School District (ISD) transportation team transformed one of its school buses into the likeness of the “Cat in the Hat,” the main character from the well-known book by children’s book author Dr. Seuss. The bus was on display at the district’s April 13 “Experience Summer in SAISD” event, which promoted more than 70 opportunities for students and parents to attend during the summer.

The outside of the school bus was created to look like the Cat in the Hat, Nathan Graf, the district’s senior executive director of transportation, told SBF. The team added Dr. Seuss book-themed decorations and poems created by San Antonio ISD students to the inside of the bus. Additionally, the Dr. Seuss story The Lorax was playing through the onboard school bus Wi-Fi.

Transportation team members also gave out over eight boxes of free books to students and parents, and educated them on the district’s school bus Wi-Fi program, as well as the health benefits of the new propane buses.

The team also took the opportunity to teach students school bus safety tips, such as how to properly board and exit the school bus, find a seat, and use the three-point seat belts on the buses.

In addition, team members provided information on the district’s school bus stop-arm camera program and recruited new bus drivers.

More than 1,000 students and parents visited the bus, Graf added.

“It was a really fun day and successful program,” he said.
