SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. — A student here has organized a community effort to fulfill a special-needs student’s wish for a school bus for Christmas, according to WKRN.

Gabby, 12, was born with a rare brain disease that requires her to be cared for her entire life, according to the news source. Her mother, Abby Howell, told WKRN that Abby asked for a real school bus for Christmas this year. Abby, who is a teacher, has a student, Jessi Smith, who became friends with her daughter, and decided to take an old bus, turn it into a classroom, and give it to Gabby.

Smith, a high school senior, received an old school bus from a friend of a friend and she and her friends gutted it and cleaned it, according to the news source. She also started a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the project. A local towing company will deliver the bus for free on Christmas Eve, and many other local businesses have donated supplies for the bus’ interior, WKRN reports. The bus will include six seats; chalkboard paint for Gabby to draw on; and thick padding, to keep Gabby, who has epilepsy, from hitting her head.

Gabby’s family told the news source that they recently moved to a farm and the bus will be placed in their yard to serve as a playground for her.
