WILLOWICK, Ohio — A teen motorist faces several charges after striking two students in a school bus stop hit-and-run here on Monday, police said.

At approximately 3 p.m., the motorist, identified by ABC 13 as 18 year-old Daila La’Shay Wilson, struck the two students as they were exiting the school bus on East 300th St. and Barjode Rd., according to a post on the Willowick Police Department’s Facebook page. Police added in the post that Wilson was driving a red vehicle that had rust on it and temporary tags, and fled the scene near Forest Grove Rd. toward the Euclid area. The two students that were hit were marked safe and were released from the hospital, according to posts on the Willoughby-Eastlake Schools’ Facebook page.

Police told ABC 13 that Wilson, who later admitted to hitting the two students, said that she panicked and was in a hurry after receiving a call from work when the incident occurred. Chief Brian Turner of Willowick Police Department added that Wilson thought the students were done crossing the street, but then a couple more students “appeared out of nowhere.” She was charged with failing to stop after an accident, driving left of center, passing a stopped school bus, and reckless operation, according to ABC 13.

Willoughby-Eastlake Schools said in a series of posts on its Facebook page that it appreciates the efforts of Mayor Richard Regovich and emergency personnel for keeping the two students safe, and that it would like to thank the school community for their thoughts and well wishes for the two students.
