LYNN HAVEN, Fla. — A teenager here was arrested after he was found aboard a stolen school bus that almost caused several crashes, according to police reports cited by Northwest Florida Daily News.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., the Lynn Haven Police Department reported that officers began pursuing a Bay Haven Charter Academy school bus, the newspaper reports. The bus was allegedly traveling below the speed limit and had crossed into oncoming traffic, nearly hitting at least one vehicle head-on. The police department also reported that after the bus almost struck a speed limit sign, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver allegedly sped up and led them on a pursuit, then came to a stop after running over a mailbox.
Officers arrested Zachary Martin, 17, on several charges, including felony grand theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding, no proper endorsement, and learner's license violation of restriction, according to Northwest Florida Daily News. The CEO of the charter school told officers Martin was a student at the school and had a history of issues concerning theft. How he was able to obtain the keys to the bus was unclear, the newspaper reports.
