STAMFORD, Conn. — Dozens of students here were rescued from a school bus that became stranded in a flooded neighborhood after heavy rain on Tuesday.

The bus was taking the students home from Rodgers International School, according to a spokesperson from Stamford Public Schools, when it became stuck in about 3 feet of water, FOX 61 reports.

Manuel Orellana, a neighborhood resident, brought a small boat he had in his backyard to the bus and placed four to five students at a time inside it, provided life jackets, and got them to safety. Another resident, Philip Vincoli, also lended a hand to help the students and bus driver evacuate the bus safely, FOX 61 reports.

Emergency crews rescued a total of 32 students from the bus, and no injuries were reported, according to WFSB.  

The rain led to flooding across many parts of the state, according to WFSB. Some school districts announced closures on Wednesday due to dangerous conditions caused by the flooding, NBC Connecticut reports.
