Students not seriously injured when bus overturns
The three children on a Copperas Cove (Texas) Independent School District bus are restrained in their wheelchairs when the bus is broadsided by a car. They are left hanging upside down and have to be cut free of their restraints, but they, along with the bus driver and attendant, only sustain minor injuries.
COPPERAS COVE, Texas — Five occupants of a school bus, three of whom were special-needs students, sustained only minor injuries when their bus was broadsided by a car in late March, KEYE TV reports.
The special-needs students who were riding the Copperas Cove Independent School District (ISD) bus were in wheelchairs and were left hanging upside down when the bus overturned upon being hit. The students had to be cut free of their restraints.
The students, the attendant, bus driver and the motorist who struck the bus were taken to a hospital in Killeen, Texas, as a precaution. Copperas Cove ISD Superintendent Dr. Joe Burns later said that the students were doing well, and none of the adults suffered life-threatening injuries, according to KEYE TV.
