Student Struck in Hit-and-Run While Getting Off School Bus
The 10-year-old Pennsylvania student is exiting her school bus when an SUV passes the bus, hits her, and then continues driving, police say.
EXETER TOWNSHIP, Penn. — Police here are searching for a motorist who allegedly passed a stopped school bus and struck a 10-year-old girl last week.
The incident, which took place on Wednesday just after 4 p.m., was captured on a video surveillance camera on the bus.
Officials said fourth grader Jahlexi Lozada was exiting her school bus at the intersection of West 47th St. and Oak Parkway when an SUV passed the bus with its stop arm deployed and its red lights flashing.
The surveillance footage reportedly shows the motorist of the SUV hitting Lozada, pausing, and then driving on, WPVI reports.
Lozada told WPVI that she believes one of the SUV’s mirrors hit her as it drove by, leaving her with a bruise under her eye.
In a statement on Facebook, Exeter Township Police Department said that they are looking for a red Acura MDX with a partial Pennsylvania license plate reading, "KDX."
Sgt. Sean Fullerton of Exeter Township Police Department told WPVI that the vehicle also has a distinctive sticker in the right corner of the rear window and chrome running boards on the bottom.
