FULTON, Mo. — The quick actions of a Jefferson City Public Schools bus driver saved an elementary school student from potentially serious injury in an illegal bus passing incident last week.
Last Tuesday, bus driver Dustin Wulf was on an afternoon route; he came to a stop on a county road and extended the bus’ stop arm. A vehicle driven by 18-year-old Famous L. Bittick was following the bus and failed to stop, the News Tribune reports.
Wulf saw that the car was approaching too fast, so he honked the bus’ horn to warn 7-year-old Stalena Whitehead, who was able to step back before being grazed by the car as it slid around the corner.
Whitehead was treated onsite by emergency responders and then taken to a medical center, where she was treated for bruises and abrasions.
Bittick was cited for not having insurance, along with careless and imprudent driving, according to the News Tribune.
