SPRINGFIELD, Pa. — A 7-year-old student was struck by a vehicle after getting off her school bus here on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The incident occurred at around 3:39 p.m. on the 400 block of East Woodland Ave., according to a post on Facebook from the Springfield Township Police Department. Officers said the student, identified as Jayzlin Yeboah by WPVI, was struck by a car after getting off the bus. She was transported to the hospital, where she is listed in critical condition, according to the news source. There were other students aboard the bus at the time.

Jayzlin’s sister, Jenyl Yeboah, told the news source that before the incident occurred, the bus driver approached the bus stop, activated the bus’s flashing lights, and that she and her sister made their way to the bus’s door. Yeboah added that when they attempted to cross the street, the driver of the vehicle hit her sister, causing a visible dent on the vehicle's hood. She said the motorist remained on the scene.

Springfield School District posted a statement about the incident on its website on Thursday. The district confirmed that Yeboah was a student at Sabold Elementary School, and that it is sending its prayers to her family at this time. The district also said that it would release additional information about the incident when and if its “available, permitted, and appropriate to be shared.”

The crash is currently under investigation.
