CHP names top school bus driver in So. California
SALINAS, Calif. — Roslyn DaSilva, a school bus driver for students with special needs for the Monterey County (Calif.) Office of Education since January 1982, was honored in April by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as the school bus driver of the year for the Southern California region. The CHP cited DaSilva's accumulation of about 600,000 accident-free, safe-driving miles over the years. To read the full story, click here.
5-year-old girl left on school bus
CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — A 5-year-old special-education student with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactive disorder) was left alone on a Parkway School District school bus after the driver failed to drop her off or perform a row-by-row check of the bus after parking. Parkway spokesman Paul Tandy said the bus driver had been suspended without pay and would be recommended for firing by the School Board. To read the full story, click here.
Bus aide acquitted of assault charges against 10-year-old boy
MERRILLVILLE, Ind. — A former school bus aide accused of assaulting a 10-year-old child with special needs on the school bus was acquitted of all charges Friday. Teresa L. Anderson, 30, of Lansing, Ill., had been accused of shoving the child to the floor of the bus on Feb. 16, 2006, and of not ensuring the boy was wearing his seat belt.
