LOS ANGELES — A railroad track crossing arm went through a school bus, landed in a student’s lap, and broke windows in the bus as it was stopping near some railroad tracks on Tuesday.

At 7:30 a.m., the school bus was trying to cross the tracks when the accident happened, KTLA reports. The crossing arm went completely through both sets of windows of the occupied school bus, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters used a rotary saw to cut and remove the crossing arm from the bus, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott. No one was injured in the incident, though some students might have cuts from the glass, according to KTLA.

It was not clear how many students were aboard the bus at the time of the incident, but in aerial video shot by KTLA, one student could be seen seated with the crossing arm in his lap. As a firefighter moved the crossing arm away from the student, the video appeared to show him smiling after he was freed from the crossing arm, according to the news source.
