SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Pupil Transportation Safety Institute (PTSI) has released a comprehensive curriculum that teaches bus drivers and attendants about the nature of disabilities, medical conditions and medical equipment and how each affects the emergency evacuation of students from a school bus.
“Evacuating Students With Disabilities” was written by occupational and physical therapist Jean Zimmerman in partnership with PTSI.
The course gives precise, how-to instructions on evacuating students with disabilities with photographs and hands-on activities. It also explains the elements of the pre-planning stages of emergency evacuation, and gives participants the opportunity to create an individualized transportation plan and a written bus evacuation plan with diagrammed seating and order of evacuation.
Materials include a participant manual, a review quiz with an answer key, an instructor’s guide, PowerPoint slides, instructor notes and a sample participant workbook.
To order the curriculum, visit the store on PTSI’s Website and search for product No. 1160.
