Norgren's air intake throttle stands up to the demands of heavy-duty diesel engines while precisely regulating airflow so that emissions control systems operate at peak efficiency, according to the company.

LITTLETON, Colo. — Norgren, a global supplier of motion and fluid control solutions, has engineered air intake throttles specifically for heavy-duty diesel engines in commercial vehicles.

Officials said the air intake throttle stands up to the demands of heavy-duty diesel engines while precisely regulating airflow so that emissions control systems operate at peak efficiency.

Common techniques for reducing nitrogen oxides and particulate matter or soot to meet 2013 EPA Tier IV Final Emissions Regulations include exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and diesel particulate filters (DPF). Managing airflow optimizes EGR, SCR and soot filter performance.

When these three are used in combination, managing the airflow is essential for boosting the EGR while maintaining high exhaust temperatures for maximum SCR and DPF efficiency, according to the company.

The corrosion-resistant design of the air intake throttle incorporates FKM seals; high temperature-range greases; steel gears; pressure die-cast housings and a durable brushless electric geared motor. The machined flap meets tight tolerances inside the bore for precise sealing and is spring loaded to default to the open position as a failsafe. The brushless motor withstands vibration and high temperature to retain precision over millions of cycles.
