Sandra "Sandy" Monteferrario passed away on March 29 after battling cancer. In 1967, she began working at Bergen-Passaic Transport Service and continued her career there for 35 years before retiring.
Sandra "Sandy" Monteferrario passed away on March 29 after battling cancer, the National School Transportation Association (NSTA) reports.
Monteferrario was born in Winston-Salem, N.C. In 1967, she began working at Bergen-Passaic Transport Service and continued her career there for 35 years before retiring. Bergen-Passaic became an NSTA member in 1995.

According to NSTA, Monteferrario remembered her time spent with association members as a time when she, "got to see all her bus friends ... and go shopping."
Her later years were spent in Boca Raton, Fla., where she golfed and started a second career as an artist, painting and exhibiting at her first art show in 2008.
Monteferrario is survived by her husband of 46 years, John, her children, Todd Monteferrario and Tracey (Mark) Rubenstein, and her grandchildren, Daniella and Tessa. Todd Monteferrario is secretary-treasurer of NSTA, and he works at First Student Inc. in North Haledon, N.J.
A viewing, visitation with the family and a memorial service will be held at Volk-Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Rd., Oradell, NJ 07649.
Visitation and viewing will be April 5, and the memorial service will be April 6. Burial will occur immediately after the memorial service at George Washington Memorial Cemetery, 234 Paramus Rd., Paramus, NJ 07653.

In lieu of flowers, NSTA officials said a donation can be made to the Hackensack UMC Foundation — John Theurer Cancer Center — Multiple Myeloma Division at www.hackensackumcfoundation.org.
