ALBANY, N.Y. — In response to requests and feedback from National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) members, the association’s Special Needs Training Program will be available throughout the year at various events nationwide.

The NAPT Special Needs Training Program offers educational opportunities at both local and national conferences for transportation personnel serving students with disabilities. The curriculum spans a variety of issues, such as an exploration of the legal basis for special-needs transportation, including differences between laws and policies, and discussion of IEPs and their applicability.

Activities include observation of or participation in a special-needs roadeo and attendance at a trade show featuring special-needs products and services. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Child Passenger Safety Training is a component of the program, along with a class on managing the behaviors of special-needs students. The program concludes with an in-depth study on a topic of your choosing and requires a written summary of your findings.
