LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A mother of a boy with autism is requesting that monitors be placed on buses for special-needs students after her son was allegedly sexually assaulted on the bus, WHAS11 reports.

The mother told the news source that her son, who is severely autistic, was assaulted recently, and even though she had previously asked twice for a monitor to be placed on the bus, there wasn’t one aboard during the alleged incident. She also said that she believes this wasn’t the first time her son was assaulted. The president of the school bus drivers’ union also told WHAS11 he plans to request a monitor on every special-needs bus.

Jefferson County Public Schools officials told the news source that they were checking bus video for another, unrelated incident when they came across the alleged sexual assault. They also told WHAS11 that they are unable to confirm or deny whether the student’s mother requested a bus monitor because of student and medical privacy laws, but added that there is now a monitor riding the bus where the alleged incident occurred.
