MINNEAPOLIS — A 53-year-old man was arrested and charged last week in connection with a disturbing incident on a school bus that took place last month, the Pioneer Press reports.
Police said that on the morning of March 17, Michael C. Friedrichs of Minneapolis boarded a school bus at a stop. He reportedly had a hooded sweatshirt pulled over his head and held a backpack in front of his face, and the bus driver "did not think anything was out of the ordinary," according to the criminal complaint filed against Friedrichs.
After the bus had continued on its route, picking up elementary students, the man disembarked at another stop, at which point the driver noticed him. He fled on foot.
Police were called, and they interviewed students, one of which said she thought the man was an acquaintance of the driver.
The officers found semen where the man had been sitting, and they described the incident as a sex act. The DNA evidence was used to identify Friedrichs, who had been convicted of criminal sexual conduct in 2004.
No students were harmed in the bus incident.
