MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police here are looking for a man they say fired a shot that struck a school bus on Monday, injuring a student.
The Memphis Police Department reported on Twitter that officers responded to a call of shots fired, and they located a school bus that had been shot. Around 30 students were on the bus at the time, news reports indicate.
One student, a 15-year-old girl, was injured in the incident. Police said she was not shot; her injury was caused by debris from the window that was struck.
The injured student was transported to the hospital in noncritical condition. Police said she was released from the hospital later in the day.
On Tuesday, the Memphis Police Department announced on Twitter that investigators had identified a suspect they said was responsible for firing the shot that hit the school bus. A warrant was issued for 23-year-old Kortez Collins for 28 counts of aggravated assault. Police asked the public for information on Collins’ whereabouts.
The owner of school bus operator Cline Tours told Fox13 that surveillance footage from the bus showed two cars shooting at each other, and a shooter apparently missed the other car and hit the bus. The bus company owner also told the news source that the school bus driver called police and pulled over to a safe location.
