HERNDON, Va. — Police here are searching for a man who allegedly tried to abduct a girl at her school bus stop on Monday.

In a press release about the incident, the Herndon Police Department did not provide the girl’s age but described her as a juvenile.

The girl reported that while she was waiting for her school bus at about 7 a.m., a man approached her and engaged her in conversation.

According to the girl, the man offered her money to come to his house, and she refused and walked away.

The man then allegedly approached the girl from behind and attempted to force her to come with him, but the girl broke free and ran home. Her mother contacted police.

Police searched the area but didn’t find the man, who was described as Hispanic, 35 to 45 years old, tall and thin, with curly hair. He was reportedly wearing a long sleeve green shirt with white stripes, khaki-colored work pants with paint stains, and black shoes.

Authorities asked for anyone with information about the incident to call the Herndon Police Department.

Police said that Fairfax County Public Schools was made aware of the incident.
