ZANESVILLE, Ohio — A former bus driver for Zanesville City Schools has been charged with a misdemeanor for nearly colliding with a train last month while she was driving her school bus. Christina Wisecarver was charged on Tuesday with one count of driving across a grade crossing.

On Feb. 16, Wisecarver drove across an intersection with no safety gates as a train approached. Five high school students were on the bus at the time, but none was injured, the Zansville Times Recorder reports.

Wisecarver finished her route after the near-collision, but district Superintendent Terry Martin told the news source that she did not drive a bus after district officials learned of the incident from the police department that night.

Wisecarver's employment with the district was terminated on Feb. 28 after an investigation of the incident. Martin told the news source that Wisecarver cooperated fully with the investigation and admitted that she acted recklessly.

Wisecarver had been employed with the district since 2003 as a substitute bus driver, the Zansville Times Recorder reports. At the time of the incident with the train, she was on a 90-day probation period as a full-time driver.
