JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — First Student Inc. will sponsor two school bus safety programs during National School Bus Safety week, which runs from Oct. 22-26.
The first program is scheduled for Oct. 23 at Hogan-Spring Glen Elementary School and the second program is scheduled for Oct. 25 at Arlington Elementary School. The programs will start at 10:00 a.m. in the schools' bus loading zones.
During the programs, students will be shown a school bus' danger zones, how to wait safely at a bus stop, how to safely load and unload a school bus and how to safely cross the street at a bus stop.
"Loading and unloading children are the most dangerous aspects of school bus transportation," said John Zeigler, regional vice president for First Student. "By celebrating School Bus Safety Week throughout our district, we have the opportunity to call attention to and promote a key area of concern with regard to the safety of our children, in an effort to prevent future injuries or fatalities."
In addition to holding school bus safety programs, School Bus Safety Week promotes awareness and education at the local and state levels through poster and speech contests, as well as other events. School districts throughout Florida will be hosting activities for parents, children and bus drivers to emphasize the importance of safety both on and off the school bus.
