LISLE, Ill. — Durham School Services recently recognized team members for providing outstanding customer service with its Customer Champion Award.

The special-needs transportation team in Carpentersville, Illinois, earned the monthly honor for May.

General Manager Dan Sutherland nominated his team after he received a letter of recognition and photo from Donna Bordsen, the director of transportation for Community Unit School District 300 in Algonquin, Illinois, showing the Durham team cheering on their students at a special-education basketball game.

“Their commitment to our students goes beyond their dedication to getting our children safely to and from school,” Bordsen said. “The Durham team’s cheers and support for our special-needs athletes warms my heart, as it does for the District 300 staff. What a great group of people.”

Each month, Durham CEO Matt Ashley reviews submissions from more than 250 facilities throughout the U.S., awarding team members who do exceptional work for the schools, districts, students, and parents they serve.

“When I read this nomination about the care they have given beyond the bus, they certainly earned the award for being excellent ambassadors to our customer and being our students’ biggest fans,” Ashley said.

Durham provides transportation for 10,300 students attending schools within the district. More than 900 of those students have special needs, according to the school bus company.
