Districts partner for transportation, technology service agreement
Dallas County Schools will provide the services for White Settlement (Texas) Independent School District beginning with the 2011-12 school year. Officials say the consolidation will enhance the White Settlement district's cost-saving efforts.
DALLAS — The board of trustees for White Settlement Independent School District (WSISD) has selected Dallas County Schools (DCS) to provide transportation and technology services.
DCS and WSISD will begin the new partnership at the start of the 2011-12 school year.
"We are very pleased to have been selected by White Settlement. We are looking forward to this new partnership with a school district of this quality," said Larry Duncan, president of the DCS board of trustees.
DCS currently provides transportation services to 10 school districts in Texas. The agency's buses transport approximately 75,000 students to and from school every day and travel about 14 million miles annually.
In addition, DCS currently provides technology support for 15 school districts in north Texas. The products and services offered consist of everything from Internet access to business continuity services to shared staffing resources.
WSISD Superintendent Audrey Arnold said, "We're excited about this consolidation with DCS because it will provide our district with more opportunities to receive additional resources, and it will further enhance our cost-saving efforts."
DCS was formed over 150 years ago as the original school district in Dallas County. As independent school districts were formed and took over the classroom functions, DCS transformed into an educational services provider. It began providing transportation in 1927, instructional media services in 1928, psychology services prior to 1967 and technology services in 1997.
